Alongside Makarska, a tennis spectacle is also announced in the city beneath Srđ. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will be held from March 23. until the 29th march
Dubrovnik, December 2, 2025 – For the first time in history, Croatia has two WTA tournaments – alongside Makarska, Dubrovnik also becomes a host of top-level women’s tennis. The WTA Dubrovnik Open was officially announced by Feliks Lukas, director of the WTA Makarska Open, who received the license for the new sports event.
“For the 20th anniversary of the tournament, we made a historic step and brought another WTA license to Croatia, and to one of the most beautiful destinations. Dubrovnik, with its global recognition, is a natural partner for such a project. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will be an important platform for Croatian players, but also a strong international promotional event connecting sport, tourism, and the local community. I am convinced that Dubrovnik, just like Makarska, will very quickly become one of the favorite destinations for players at the world level,” said Lukas, representative of all WTA 125 tournaments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Croatia, the alpha and omega of the clay-court season
WTA Dubrovnik Open održat će se od 23. until the 29th March on the courts of the Dubrovnik Tennis Club in Lapad. It will be the first European WTA 125 series tournament after the American tour and the event that opens the spring season of professional clay-court tournaments. In Croatia, the season will also close with the WTA Makarska Open, a tournament held in its traditional slot in the first week of June.
Dubrovnik on the world tennis map
“For the first time, we have received the organization of a professional tournament from the WTA calendar, the most prestigious women’s tennis organization in the world. I am extremely happy that we have managed to place Dubrovnik on the world tennis map. I thank Mayor Mato Franković and County Prefect Blaž Pezo, who recognized the importance of this sports and tourism event. Many thanks also to Feliks Lukas for choosing Dubrovnik and helping us get the green light to organize the tournament. This tournament is important for young Croatian players who will have the opportunity to compete on the world stage, and we are especially pleased that our Dubrovnik players – Ana Konjuh and Lucija Ćirić Bagarić – are expected to play. The image of our city will reach the whole world,” said Marjan Konjuh, president of the Dubrovnik Tennis Club and father of the well-known player Ana Konjuh, emphasizing that this is a historic moment for Dubrovnik tennis.
The great importance of the new tournament has also been recognized by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
Mato Franković: an added value in the pre-season
The City of Dubrovnik sees this tournament as an important step forward in the city’s sports and tourism offerings.
“It is an immense pleasure and honor for us that Dubrovnik will host such a significant tennis competition, which will bring together some of the best female players in the world and open the European spring season of professional clay-court tournaments. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will certainly enrich the city’s cultural and sports offerings in the pre-season and create added value for the tourism sector. I believe this unique project has the opportunity to grow into a new, recognizable sports tradition in our city, to the pride of all our citizens and for the benefit of the entire Croatian tennis community. We look forward to once again sending a positive message to the world about Dubrovnik as a city of sport,” emphasized Mato Franković, mayor of Dubrovnik.
